Rock band The Slants, which seeks to 'recover' Asian American identity, to play in Riverside

An Asian American dance rock band from Oregon, best known for its defend totally free speech versus the country's highest court, is coming to UC Riverside.

And the band's name - - The Slants - is not as offending as - one may think - however rather, a way for members and fans to recover their identity and reveal pride for their culture.

Simon Tam and turning members of The Slants will perform at a totally free two-day Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage celebration on Monday, April 24, and Tuesday, April 25, hosted by UCR's College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

The college's totally free Speaker Series events will include a panel on Monday at UCR ARTS in downtown Riverside with Asian American community leaders from the university. On Tuesday, The Slants will heading a free concert at the school belfry, followed by a musical lecture and book signing in the University Theatre.
