CARSON CITY - - A contentious expense that would end a COVID-19 era requirement for day-to-day space cleanings is headed to the Assembly flooring after being authorized in committee Friday afternoon.
Senate Bill 441, which would rescind legislation from the 2021 legal session that needed day-to-day space cleanings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, was authorized on a vote of 12-1. Assemblywoman Bea Duran, D-Las Vegas, was the only no vote.
The bill was authorized 18-3 by the state Senate last week, with Sen. Fabian Doññ ate, D-Las Vegas, Edgar Flores, D-Las Vegas, and James Ohrenschall, D-Las Vegas, voting no.
Supporters of the costs, including the Nevada Resort Association, argue that the guideline is "extreme" and no longer required. But challengers, consisting of the powerful Culinary Union Local 226, state the rule's repeal could result in housekeeper layoffs.
