The incident occurred during the ship’s seven-night Caribbean voyage, which departed Miami on August 2. Witnesses reported hearing a loud crack followed by a rush of water spilling from the damaged slide onto the deck below. Passengers nearby yelled for the ride to be stopped as crew members quickly shut it down.
Royal Caribbean confirmed the injured guest—an adult whose name has not been released—was treated by the ship’s medical team and is now in stable condition. The cruise line stated the affected slide will remain closed while engineers investigate the cause of the failure.
“Our team provided medical care to the guest, and we are reviewing the situation thoroughly,” the company said in a statement. “Guest safety is our top priority.”
The Icon of the Seas’ “Thrill Island” water park features multiple record-breaking slides, some of which extend over the open ocean. The specific slide involved has not been publicly identified. Areas surrounding the damaged section were cordoned off during the inspection, and no additional injuries were reported.
Royal Caribbean has not provided a timeline for repairs but indicated that findings from the investigation will be shared once complete.
