San Pablo police are sounding the alarm after a series of thefts targeting elderly residents under the guise of helpful strangers. The scheme involves suspects posing as kind-hearted individuals offering assistance—only to rob their victims once trust is gained.
Authorities confirm at least six cases in the past month where elderly residents were robbed under similar circumstances. In one disturbing instance, an 81-year-old woman was helped with her groceries—only to later discover her purse missing, along with $400 in cash and her late husband’s wedding ring.
Local senior centers are now hosting safety workshops, while police increase patrols near shopping centers. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage and believe the same group may be responsible for multiple incidents.
"These criminals prey on kindness and vulnerability," said San Pablo PD spokesperson Lt. Maria Hernandez. "We urge everyone to be extra vigilant and report suspicious behavior immediately."
