SHEPHERD, Texas (BNN)-- On Wednesday early morning, several fire agencies utilized foam to contain a large plant fire along FM 1127 in Shepherd, Texas, that left one employee injured.
The San Jacinto County Precinct 2 Constable posted photos of the thick, black smoke coming from the area at about 8:45 a.m
. At about 8:17 a.m., authorities said they got reports of a possible surge at Sound Resource Solutions, which apparently makes glue and paint cleaner solvents. A source informed Eyewitness News that a 1,000-gallon propane tank is in the middle of the fire, and a four-inch gas main is under the ground.
13 Investigates' & #x 27; Kevin Ozebek spoke with an existing staff member who stated one man was hurt in a "" freak mishap"" triggered by a forklift incident. The source stated the injured worker was required to the health center with second-degree burns to his arms and first-degree burns to his face.
The owner of Sound Resource Solutions confirmed there was a forklift event and said the employee suffered a small injury and is being treated at the medical facility.
Authorities clarified that of the almost 40 people employed, just 19 staff members were operating at the time. All workers were stated to be accounted for, and the hurt worker is doing well.
Authorities said combustible liquids, diesel, turpentine, and other chemicals were associated with the fire. Some chemicals are apparently known to be harmful.
Shelter-in-place issued
Locals within a one-mile radius of the fire were asked to shelter in location. Those locations consisted of San Jacinto and Polk counties.
As of 2:36 p.m., that shelter-in-place in Polk County and San Jacinto were raised, and authorities stated HVAC systems could be turned back on at people'& #x 27; s discretion.
After carrying out an air quality monitoring operation in Polk County, the Harris County Fire Marshal'& #x 27; s Office stated it did not pick up any high readings. Nevertheless, the general public is asked not to remain outdoors, particularly small children and those with breathing illnesses and other illness.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has yet to finish its report.
School districts affected
The San Jacinto County Office of Emergency Management stated 31 trainees at Wildwood Private School, located along FM 1127, were safely evacuated through a pasture by 9:15 a.m.
Shepherd ISD officials said there are about 1,900 kids in the district, and apparently in class during the fire. All trainees were reported safe and were no longer asked to shelter in location.
Trainees who live along these areas will need to be selected up by a moms and dad or guardian. Students can be chosen up now or at the normal termination time.
The Goodrich Independent School District said it evacuated trainees on the suggestions of Polk County Emergency Management Services to Onalaska ISD. While a map reveals the school is about six miles from the plant website, which was not in the shelter-in-place zone, the campus was in the direct path of the smoke.
Superintendent Daniel Barton stated when they got the call to evacuate, they loaded the 269 kindergarten to 12th-grade students up on four buses and drove them to Onalaska Junior-Senior High School.
Those students have given that been returned to Goodrich to finish their school day or be picked up by their parents.
Livingston ISD said it positioned all schools on hold out of an abundance of care and employed emergency situation procedures to make sure trainee and personnel security.
The district said when on "" hold,"" trainees are trained to clear the corridors and stay in their location or room till an "" all clear"" is revealed. Adults and personnel then should close and lock doors and account for all students.
Onalaska ISD said it did not shelter in location, as it was not in the path of the plume. Both Leggett and Corrigan-Camden school districts stated they protected in location.
Power failures

Houston Electric Cooperative website, 412 customers out of 14,614 in San Jacinto County are out of power. It appears emergency situation workers may have asked for the power to be cut as teams work the scene.
Traffic closures
The Texas Department of Transportation said US-59 remains closed from FM 1988 to Exit 451B as teams work to put out the fire. Detours include Exit 451B in Shepherd and FM 1988 in Polk County.
The Polk County Sheriff'& #x 27; s Office likewise reported that traffic was shut down at US-190 and US-59. Depending on which way you are traveling, chauffeurs will be rerouted to State Highway 156 or I-45.
FM 3278 is supposedly not open to traffic unless evidence of residency is supplied.
