Shooting near Southwest High School stimulates examination

Around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, the Little Rock Police Department responded to a shooting near Mabelvale Cutoff Road. The victim was a Southwest High School trainee.

Unnamed to protect his identity as a juvenile, the victim supposedly left school without permission and went to Morehart Park, which has to do with one mile away. The trainee was shot at the park, and officers secured the location and began an investigation, representative Mark Edwards stated Tuesday.

" There wasn't a shooting at a school, and none of the schools were ever in threat," Edwards stated.

The victim was shot on a lower extremity-- aka either the leg or the foot-- and the call came in after the trainee made it back to the school, Edwards stated. The LRPD has actually not named any possible suspects.

The authorities report wasn't readily available at the time of publication. Pamela Smith, who leads interactions for the Little Rock School District, forwarded the letter Principal Quantas Floyd sent out to parents on Monday.

Great Afternoon Gryphon Family,

We desired to make you mindful of an occurrence including one of our trainees off campus. The trainee returned to our campus to get assistance. It takes all of us working together to make sure safe schools, and I appreciate the assistance you provide to LR Southwest daily.

Morehart Park lies at 9300 Mabelvale Cutoff Road. The 43-acre park was established in the 1980s and is densely wooded. It is throughout the street from Mabelvale Elementary School.
