SoCal man implicated of attacking sheriff's deputy dies in custody

A Rancho Cucamonga man detained by law enforcement after supposedly assaulting a constable's deputy has actually passed away in custody, authorities said.

Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department were dispatched to the 10100 block of Foothill Boulevard just after midnight on Tuesday early morning to look at reports that a guy was trying to open home and automobile doors, and activated an emergency alarm.

The male, later on recognized by the constable's department as 32-year-old Mohd Hijaz, was discovered shouting while sitting in a bush. Deputies required paramedics and asked him if he needed assistance, from a distance.

At that point, authorities said, Hijaz charged at the deputies and declined several commands to stop. As deputies advance to apprehend him, Hijaz struck one of them in the face.

In custody at the scene, and as medical personnel got here, Hijaz suffered a medical emergency situation. He died at a local hospital, authorities stated.

Authorities are investigating the death. The cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Anyone with info about this case is asked to get in touch with Detective Malcolm Page, Specialized Investigations Division at 909-890-4904.
