Taking the Vegas leap: An extra 24 hr to get hitched


LAS VEGAS (BNN) - - Leap day is popular for weddings, and Las Vegas is the wedding capital of the world.

Clark County generally issues 80,000 licenses a year.

One happy couple that got married at Vegas Weddings Thursday: Venetta and Pasquale, high school sweethearts. After 17 years together, they are now Mr. and Mrs. Baldi.

Because their anniversary would be just as soon as every 4 years, the newlyweds joked they wanted a leap year wedding event. "We have actually been together for so long," Venetta stated, including that she delighted in having the rare date as a part of their story.

Pasquale proposed in 2020.

After waiting through the pandemic, they secured the date at Vegas Weddings.

They were simply among a number of couples sounding in their special day on the additional day.

The Clark County Marriage License Bureau reported a busy day. They said 85 couples collected their marital relationship licenses as of noon Thursday and the county provided 311 on Wednesday.

Clark County saw 1,081 marital relationships last leap year in 2020.

" It is an unusual day, something you'll always keep in mind," according to the Rev. Nick Connor, who officiated the Baldi wedding on the balcony.

As long as you have your marital relationship license, you can get wed in your automobile as fast as 10 minutes for Vegas Weddings' drive thru "Fast Lane" ceremony.

The Baldis plan to commemorate their anniversary with a small party every year, and a big something the 4th year.

" We were thinking of restoring our promises every four years," Venetta stated.

Their officiant recommended the same.

" Come back here, renew your swears, delight in Vegas," Connor said. "And always do something additional unique. Since this is your additional 24 hours with the love of your life."

A marital relationship license costs $102.
