A 17-year-old suspect is in custody following a hit-and-run incident on Spokane’s South Hill that left a pedestrian seriously injured. According to authorities, the collision occurred late Tuesday evening near a residential intersection.
Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle strike the victim before speeding away. Emergency responders arrived minutes later and transported the woman to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police launched an immediate search for the suspect, tracking the vehicle using traffic camera footage.
The teenage driver was later apprehended at a residence less than two miles from the scene. Investigators confirmed the suspect’s identity but have not released their name due to juvenile privacy laws.
Neighbors expressed shock over the incident, citing concerns about speeding in the area. "This could’ve been anyone—kids play here every day," said one resident. Authorities are reviewing whether intoxication or distracted driving played a role.
The suspect faces charges of felony hit-and-run and reckless driving. Prosecutors may pursue additional penalties depending on evidence collected during the investigation.
