A 16-year-old male is in custody following a shooting in Ellis County on Friday that left another teenager injured, according to local authorities.
The Ellis County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies responded to reports of a shooting just after 6:30 p.m. in a residential area. Upon arrival, they found a 17-year-old male with a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Officials have described his condition as stable.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect, leading to the arrest of a 16-year-old from the area. He was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility.
While the precise motive remains under investigation, preliminary information from the sheriff's office suggests the individuals were known to each other and the incident was not a random act of violence. Authorities have not released the names of either teenager due to their status as minors.
