Meade County Man Faces Assault Charge After Alleged Altercation at Store

A Meade County man is in custody following a reported physical altercation inside a local discount store last week. The incident, which drew a swift response from county deputies, resulted in a serious assault charge.

According to official law enforcement reports, the confrontation occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, February 14th. Deputies were dispatched to the establishment located on Highway 60 in the Vine Grove area after receiving a call about an assault in progress.

Details from the Arrest Citation

Upon arrival, authorities made contact with a female individual who displayed visible signs of injury. The arrest citation states the woman reported being strangled by a male acquaintance, identified as 33-year-old Brandon Miller, during an argument inside the store.

The document further alleges that Miller placed both hands around the woman's neck and applied pressure. Deputies noted the presence of redness and apparent abrasions on the victim's neck consistent with her statement.

Suspect in Custody, Charged with Felony

Brandon Miller was located and arrested at the scene without further incident. He was transported to the Meade County Detention Center and has been charged with one count of Strangulation in the First Degree, a Class C felony.

As of the latest updates, Miller remains held in custody. A preliminary court hearing is scheduled to take place in Meade District Court this week. The investigation into the precise circumstances leading to the altercation remains active.

What do you think?

  • With violent incidents increasingly reported in retail spaces, should stores implement more proactive security measures beyond surveillance cameras?

  • Is the legal penalty for strangulation strong enough, given medical experts often cite it as a major precursor to more lethal violence?

  • How can communities better address the root causes of interpersonal violence that spills into public view?
