Texas Tech University is deeply rooted in Lubbock’s history, and the whole town is passionate about the school.
This means that whenever there are any changes made to any sort of ‘tradition’ at Tech, there are bound to be big opinions about it. We see it with new amenities being added to campus, buildings changing, and more. Current students, alumni, and Texas Tech fans in general will hold their own opinions about these changes.
Texas Tech University has made a big change by updating their branding with a new word mark that pairs with the iconic Double T.

Matt Dewey, VP of Marketing and Communications at Tech stated, “Texas Tech's visual identity is more than a logo or a set of colors. It represents our values, aspirations and commitment to excellence. After months of planning, research and collaboration, we have developed a new visual identity system that captures the essence of what Texas Tech is and where it's headed.”
I personally like the new look. It gives a more modern feel to the logo while still maintaining the spirit of the university.

I think change will always be met with criticism, but I also think change is good and healthy. It still maintains the iconic and unchanged Double T, but it allows for Tech to move forward after the last century in a way that represents who they are now.
“The new Texas Tech word mark balances the university's history and tradition with a modern collegiate representation of the university name. Its letterforms are inspired by the Double T, creating a strong and recognizable graphic that boldly reinforces what Texas Tech is.”
