FRESNO, Calif. (BNN)-- Thieves targeted a Boys and Girls Club in
Fresno for two nights this week, destroying parts of a recently laid yard.
All torn up. That is how staff found the club'& #x 27; s yard in West
Fresno for the very first time on Wednesday.
"" People hopped the fence we have here and were literally pulling the squares of sod out of the ground and throwing them over the fence,"" Boys and Girls Club Director of Operations Richard Saldivar said.
Saldivar informed Action News the crime took place 2 nights in a row, this Wednesday and Thursday, in a location of the club'& #x 27; s residential or commercial property that is not well-lit in the evening.
Even with security cameras around the club, he stated there are no suspects or leads. However, the burglars handled to leave some hints.
" "We could see little debris on the fence and whatever, and there was a little baby stroller out there,"" Saldivar said. "" I think they were putting them and rolling them out."".
The missing out on rolls of sod are specifically upsetting since the Lowe'& #x 27; s Hometown Project had actually simply contributed the grass earlier this fall.
Team member informed Action News they are concerned burglars might strike once again, ruining even more of the landscaping because the location of taken sod is just a part of the much larger outdoor space.
Saldivar states the club has actually asked the
Fresno Police to enhance late-night and over night patrols over the next couple of days.
"" This is for the kids,"" he stated. "" We want it to be here for several years to come. It'& #x 27; s improving the community too."".
Club leaders state they are determined to move on, offering a safe space for area kids.
That was clear on Friday night as lots of families collected inside the club for a neighborhood Thanksgiving supper steps away from the torn-up lawn.
