" Certain parts of our grid and facilities are more of a gatekeeper, if you will, or a. Even if possibly that specific area doesn't have as numerous reported interruptions as another one, it's crucial to repair that initially because it's more of a sequential repair work series and that will dictate more repairs down the line."

Bartl stated people need to be prepared in case their power gets knocked out.

" First and foremost is constantly security," added Bartl. "We advise things like charging your phones, ensuring your cell phones are charged, having a full tank of gas. It's never a bad concept to have some battery-operated flashlights and radios on standby if essential. And simply to be prepared."

And if you stumble upon a downed power line ...

" Never, ever approach a downed powerline. Make sure you remain at the very minimum a minimum of thirty feet away. If you occur to be traveling in your car and there's a downed powerline touching your vehicle, stay within and call NYSEG."

Bartl also desires individuals to bear in mind that prior to anyone's power is restored, field crew security comes first.

" They do what they can as quickly as they can," added Bartl. "But, they need to, naturally, follow our rigid safety procedure at all times."
