The Tennessee Titans have waived former first-round draft pick Treylon Burks, marking the end of a brief but tumultuous tenure for the young wide receiver. The decision comes after two seasons where Burks struggled to meet expectations following his selection as the 18th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Burks entered the league with high expectations, having been drafted as a direct replacement for A.J. Brown after the Titans traded the Pro Bowl receiver to Philadelphia. However, his career in Tennessee was plagued by injuries, inconsistent performance, and questions about his conditioning.
The decision to waive Burks reflects the Titans' changing philosophy under new head coach Brian Callahan and general manager Ran Carthon. The organization appears committed to reshaping its receiving corps after signing veteran wideout Calvin Ridley and drafting another pass-catcher in the first round this year.
"We appreciate Treylon's contributions and wish him well moving forward," a team spokesperson told BNN. "Sometimes these decisions are about fit as much as talent."
At just 24 years old with first-round pedigree, Burks will likely draw interest from teams willing to take a low-risk chance on his potential. However, he'll need to demonstrate improved durability and work ethic to stick with another NFL roster.
Analysts suggest several receiver-needy teams could consider claiming Burks off waivers, especially given his affordable contract and untapped upside.
