Dozens of amateur and professional bakers gathered this weekend for the annual Marionberry Pie Bake-Off, a competition celebrating Oregon’s signature berry. The event, held in a bustling community center, drew crowds eager to sample sweet, flaky creations.
Participants showcased their best recipes, ranging from classic double-crust pies to innovative twists like marionberry-lavender hybrids. Judges evaluated entries based on taste, texture, and presentation, with one baker ultimately crowned the winner.
"The creativity this year was outstanding," said a judge. "It’s not just about the berries—it’s about the love and skill baked into every slice."
Beyond the competition, the event fostered community spirit. Attendees enjoyed live music, pie-eating contests, and a chance to vote for their favorite "People’s Choice" dessert. Proceeds from ticket sales benefited local food banks.
"This isn’t just about ribbons," said an organizer. "It’s about bringing people together over something everyone loves—pie."
Organizers hinted at expanding next year’s event, possibly adding workshops for aspiring bakers. "We want to keep the tradition alive and growing," they noted.
