In a heart-wrenching incident that has shaken the Glendale community, a 12-year-old girl has lost her life, and her 14-year-old sister is fighting for her life in the hospital after being struck by an SUV. This tragic event occurred last Friday near the intersection of 59th Avenue and Greenway Road.
On Monday, friends and family gathered to honor the memory of Kaliyah Reyes and Delilah Marquez. A moving memorial was established, with heartfelt messages written in chalk all over the sidewalk, showcasing the love and support for the grieving family.
According to police reports, the sisters were crossing the street mid-block when the incident occurred. Tragically, Kaliyah Reyes succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday morning. Her sister Delilah, although still in critical condition, is currently breathing on her own.
The girls' uncle, Aaron Tortola, shared fond memories of their close bond. “They grew up together, playing with Barbie dolls, creating TikTok videos, and even starting a career in softball. They had big dreams for their future,” he said.
The driver involved in the accident has been cooperative with investigators, and police have stated that there were no signs of impairment or speeding. As of now, no charges will be filed against the driver.
