In a heartbreaking incident that has shaken the community, a 32-year-old man lost his life in a tragic traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle. The accident occurred on the evening of Friday, August 16, 2024, and is currently under investigation by local authorities. Here’s what we know so far.
At approximately 8:19 p.m., the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) received multiple emergency calls reporting a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Fairview Street and Harvard Street. Responding officers, alongside the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), quickly arrived at the scene to find the victim lying unconscious on the ground.
Despite the prompt efforts of emergency responders, including life-saving measures, the OCFA pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The incident has left many in the community mourning the loss of a life cut short.
Initial investigations reveal that the pedestrian may have been illegally crossing the street. Fortunately, early reports indicate that alcohol or drugs do not appear to have been factors in this tragic event. However, the investigation remains ongoing, as detectives work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The identity of the deceased has yet to be released, pending notification of next of kin by the Orange County Coroner’s Office. The Santa Ana Police Department’s Collision Investigations Unit (CIU) is actively looking into the details of this case and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
