In a bizarre twist of fate, a seal found itself in a precarious situation, captured in the mouth of a humpback whale off the coast of Anacortes, Washington. As the humpback whale lunged to feed, it opened its enormous mouth wide, inadvertently gulping down a bewildered seal along with a mouthful of water and fish. Instead of diving deeper to filter its meal using its baleen plates, the whale surfaced and began to open and close its mouth, revealing its unintentional catch.

Thanks to the keen eyes of those on board, the unusual scene was quickly documented. Captain McKeen described the moment as both amusing and surreal: “That’s when we saw the seal. It was a funny, funny moment for everybody. I mean, it probably wasn’t that funny for the seal.”
