Video: KC-area jogger makes it through random shooting, suspect at large


SELF-RELIANCE, Mo. - - Day two of a manhunt for an armed suspect was not really active Thursday in Independence.

Authorities say the suspect at center of the search, captured on cam attempting to shoot a jogger in the head, may have passed away from unexplained injuries in a vast wooded area.

That area is simply on the border of the Blue Springs city restricts off U.S. Highway 40 and Little Blue Parkway.

Authorities stated the suspect went into the area covered in blood which was most likely from an injury. He might have bedded down deep in the thick woods. Dense that even police canines haven't been able to track him down.

But the scenario in fact began about a 10 minute drive away in a peaceful area.

East 42nd Terrace in Independence is a winding roadway where the neighbors all understand each other. The disgust at a random shooting targeting a lady.

" You attempt to mind your own business and you still get [expletive] on," Carol Stuart, a next-door neighbor in the area of where the attack took place, stated.

The video begins with a jogger getting in the frame. She is carefully followed by a guy who draws a handgun and fires point-blank at the female who astonishingly is not struck.

The video then reveals the jogger being up to the ground and rolling around as the suspect flee.

A neighbor then exits his house throughout the street.

When he heard the shooting, Stuart's partner Donald was in the house.

" But you know, she wasn't bleeding no where. She said ‘‘ I better call the polices.' I said ‘‘ Yeah,'" Donald stated.

" He didn't state absolutely nothing. He's not much of a talker anyways," Carol said of her partner.

The next time the suspect was seen it was in the location of the 4900 block of South Arrowhead Drive.

Officer Jack Taylor with Independence police said the suspect entered one of these businesses covered in blood and asked for water.

Taylor said the suspect had taken a vehicle from a house he broke into not far from the site of the attempted shooting.

" That cars and truck was located. It likewise had blood in it. Officers instantly started searching for this person," Taylor stated.

"Officers are working through the woods right now trying to locate him. He is armed," he stated.

That's worrying for people living in the community where the shooting occurred. Still amazed that their next-door neighbor endured an obviously random murder attempt.

Knowing the suspect hasn't been found yet, Carol said it does not make her feel safe.

"You do not understand where he's at. Or where he's concealing," she said.
