According to previous reports, all the candidates who submitted to run for the seat, including two Democrats and 9 Republicans, accepted an invitation to participate in Thursday night's online forum. Prospects who are expected to participate consist of:
- Raju Chinthala, a Republican
- Max Engling, a Republican
- Chuck Goodrich, a Republican
- Mark Hurt, a Republican
- Patrick Malayter, a Republican
- Matthew Peiffer, a Republican
- Ryan Pfenninger, a Democrat
- Deborah Pickett, a Democrat
- Lonnie D. Powell, a Republican
- Larry Savage, a Republican
- U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz, R-Ind. District 5, the incumbent
This follows Spartz previously said she would not be running for re-election, causing a variety of Republicans to submit to run for the seat. A year later, Spartz altered her mind, informing BNN/CBS4 at the time that she had more battles to fight in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Organizers stressed that the forum is a non-partisan occasion, authorities stated, and is being hosted "to help inform and engage the people" of the fifth district.
