Federal authorities are asking for assistance from the community to locate a man wanted in connection with a brazen bank robbery on a university campus. The incident occurred at a financial institution branch located inside the University of Houston's student center.
According to officials, the suspect entered the bank in the middle of the afternoon. He approached a teller and presented a note demanding cash. The note explicitly threatened violence, claiming the individual was armed. After obtaining an undisclosed sum of money, the man fled the scene on foot. No injuries were reported during the event.
The FBI has released surveillance images of the individual, described as a man with a full beard. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a distinct maroon or burgundy sweatshirt, a black cap, and dark pants. Investigators are scouring the area and reviewing additional footage to trace the suspect's escape route.
"Robberies at institutions like this create fear and disruption in a place of learning," a federal spokesperson stated. "We are leveraging all available resources and are confident someone in the public will recognize this individual."
The FBI's Houston Field Office is leading the investigation. They urge anyone with information about the suspect's identity or whereabouts to contact them directly. A reward may be available for tips that lead to an arrest.
University police are collaborating closely with federal agents, increasing patrols around campus to reassure students and staff. The branch remains closed as the forensic investigation continues.
