West Lafayette authorities react to several overdoses in home

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - - One person passed away after West Lafayette police investigated a series of reported overdoses at a West Lafayette house on Sunday, according to the department.

Throughout the day on Sunday, officers with the West Lafayette Police Department reacted to multiple events at an apartment on Brown Street in West Lafayette, according to a news release from the department.

At around 1:57 a.m., officers reacted to a report that a person was not breathing at the apartment. When they arrived, they discovered two people on the flooring and unresponsive, both of which appeared to be experiencing drug overdoses. The people were recognized as a 45-year-old female and a 32-year-old woman.

Officers administered doses of intranasal naloxone to each lady. The release said as medical aid was rendered, the 45-year-old female appeared to have stopped breathing. Both females were required to a local health center for medical treatment.

During a search of the home at the time, officers recovered percentages of thought cocaine, drug and cannabis paraphernalia, the release said.

At around 11:42 a.m., officers with the department responded to another report of an individual who was unresponsive at the exact same apartment or condo. When they got here, they found a 27-year-old male who appeared to be suffering from a drug overdose. Officers then administered a dosage of intranasal naloxone to the guy and continued to render help up until medics arrived.

The officers then searched the home once again and apparently found small amounts of believed fentanyl, drug and marijuana paraphernalia. The release stated a 49-year-old male who had actually been conscious upon arrival started to show symptoms of an overdose during the examination and was required to a regional medical facility.

At around 2:09 a.m. on Monday, medics were transferred to the prison due to the fact that the female was found "not breathing and unresponsive." The woman, who was not identified by police, was pronounced dead.

Officials said the woman's identity, as well as her cause of death, will be released by the Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office.

"The West Lafayette Police Department would like to alert the general public, specifically leisure cocaine users in the location, about the possibility that compounds they believe are drug may include fentanyl or other substances that might cause a deadly overdose," the release stated. "This is still an active examination, and no additional details will be launched at this time.
