Wrong-way driver who crashed into California Highway Patrol charged with attempted murder

(FOX40.COM) - - The individual who crashed into California Highway Patrol officers while driving the wrong way on Interstate 80 was charged with attempted murder and a slew of other felony charges.

On March 13, 2 CHP officers who were being in their patrol automobiles after a traffic stop on eastbound I-80 near Mace Boulevard in the Davis location of Yolo County stated they were hurt after being struck by the alleged wrong-way motorist, Samuel Hanawalt, 33. Law enforcement presume the crash was deliberate.

Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig revealed on Monday that Hanawalt is facing charges that include tried murder, attack with a lethal weapon, and driving violations. He included that the charges include "enhancements" which means the acts were finished with cruelty, excellent damage or violence, viciousness, and/or more.

" Acts of violence like this versus our officers will not be endured," stated CHP Assistant Commissioner Ezery Beauchamp in declaration on March 15. "Our CHP investigators and investigative personnel will work collaboratively with the district attorney's workplace to ensure this individual is held liable for his actions."

Hanawalt is scheduled to be arraigned on the charges at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Dept. 1 of the Yolo County Superior Court.
