E-billboards might bring millions

A proposal to develop and run electronic signboards on city-owned residential or commercial property that might bring in $121,763,330 in earnings over 30 years precedes the Westminster City Council when it meets on Wednesday.

At problem is the choice of Branded Cities Los Angeles as the firm that would perform this organization and directing city personnel to continue with the drafting of a lease agreement.

According to a personnel report, Branded Cities proposes to construct two such billboards along the San Diego (405) Freeway, one near the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Edinger Avenue and the other along "old Edwards Street."

Possible marketers could consist of Apple, Amazon, Coca-Cola and Disney. The developer is promising the city a minimum yearly warranty of $825,000 each year through the very first five years, increasing to $1.328 million in the 26th through 30th years or 62.5 percent of all gross incomes gotten from advertising.

Branded Cities is providing to pay for all expenses associated with building and running the billboards.

The city would not receive any money until the signboards have been completed, some time in 2024.

The council will satisfy at 6 p.m. in its chambers at 8200 Westminster Blvd.
